Title: Photoactivated fluorescence and in situ electroluminescence from individual Ag/sub n/ molecules
Abstract: Summary form only given. Individual Ag/sub n/ molecules are also strongly electroluminescent and have been created in situ within silver oxide films. This first example of single molecule electroluminescence occurs through a field-induced extraction of charge carriers with subsequent charge re-injection. This mechanism is demonstrated by the simultaneous conduction through and electroluminescence from spatially resolved single molecules that span the gap between two closely spaced AgO electrodes. The electroluminescence efficiency of individual molecules is very strongly field dependent, enabling the heterogeneous interelectrode interface to be probed.
