Title: Outcome of continuing pregnancy with a coincident blighted ovum
Abstract: SummaryUltrasound diagnosis of a second gestational sac, empty or containing a blighted ovum, coincident with a normal pregnancy, was made on 30 occasions. Twenty of these patients carried a normal intra-uterine pregnancy to full maturity, although nine of these had significant vaginal bleeding in early pregnancy. The presence of a second gestational sac, not containing an ongoing pregnancy, which disintegrates, is a small but significant cause of bleeding or abortion in early pregnancy.
