Title: Uncertainty in the potential of a reference interface in liquid/liquid measurements
Abstract: Abstract Electrochemical research on interfaces between two immiscible electrolytes often relies on establishing the so‐called reference interface. This interface is formed by two immiscible solvents, each with a dissolved electrolyte. The electrolytes are chosen such that the two solvents share one common ion. The potential of the interface is then determined by a calculation. In this study, it is shown that this ionsensitive interface does not always have the commonly accepted potential value. Reasons for this and corrective actions are given.
