Title: Characterization of Histaminergic Receptors
Abstract: Abstract Histamine mediates vascular smooth muscle relaxation and bronchial smooth muscle contraction, but also acts as a neurotransmitter, mediating gastric acid release and modulating the release other neurotransmitters in addition to histamine. In this unit, radioligand binding protocols are described for each of the known subtypes of histamine receptors, namely, H 1 , H 2 , and H 3 . These receptors demonstrate low amino acid sequence homology at the protein level and have divergent pharmacological characteristics such that the conditions described for assaying each receptor are dissimilar.
