Title: Self-Generation of Toroidal Magnetic Flux in a Toroidal Z-Pinch
Abstract: Self-generation of toroidal magnetic flux is observed in a toroidal Z-pinch without any initial toroidal field. The direction of the generated toroidal flux does not correlated with that of the plasma current. More toroidal flux is generated for lower filling pressure. Toroidal flux sufficient to form a force free field configuration is obtained. A stationary state has not been reached within the present short discharge period (<120 µs), although magnetic field profiles give a gross force free field configuration.
