Title: Response of Seed Yield and Seed Yield Components of Alfalfa (Medicago sativa) to Different Seeding Rates
Abstract: A field experiment was conducted at the Research Site of Tehran Agricultural and Natural Resources Research Center in Varamin, Iran to study the response of seed yield and yield components of alfalfa (Medicago sativa) to different seeding rates during 2005-2008 growing seasons. Seeding rate treatments were 2.5 kg ha (SR ), 5.0 kg ha (SR ), 7.5 kg ha (SR ), 10.0 kg ha (SR ) and 12.5 kg ha (SR ). Seed yield and yield -1 -1 -1 -1 -1 123 4 5 components (number of pods per m , number seeds per pod and 1000-seed weight) were determined for all 2 per m (4620) was observed in case of SR treatment. Therefore, 2.5 kg ha was found to be more appropriate 2 -1 5 seeding rate in improving seed yield of alfalfa in the semi-arid lands of Varamin, Iran.
