Title: Bronchopulmonary sequestration in infancy and childhood
Abstract: Bronchopulmonary sequestration is a congenital pulmonary ectopia or sequestration associated with an anomalous artery, usually originating from the aorta. Two cases, one intralobar and the other extralobar in type, occurring in children are reported. The latter was associated with congenital absence of the pericardium; both patients were cured by surgical extirpation of the involved segment. A selected review of the literature emphasizing the various theories as to embryological origin, pathology, and clinical manifestations of bronchopulmonary sequestration is presented.
