Title: CCW'S SHORELINE OIL DISTRIBUTION SURVEYS FOLLOWING THE SEA EMPRESS SPILL
Abstract: ABSTRACT Visual surveys of the distribution and severity of oiling were carried out by trained observers over the entire length of shoreline affected by the Sea Empress oil spill. Results showed that in the early stages, half of the approximately 200-km spill zone was heavily impacted (mostly rocky shoreline). A second survey, using SCAT methodology, has been recently completed to document the dramatic reduction in surface oiling and to describe the residual oil in greater detail.
