Abstract: The RIVO project Assessment of demersal fish stocks in Mauritania was commissioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Netherlands to produce information on the state of the demersal fish stocks (species that live near the bottom) in Mauritania, in particular octopus and shrimps. These stocks are fished by fleets from the EU, working under the fishery agreement between the EU and Mauritania. Although there are no Dutch vessels targeting demersal fish in Mauritania, the government of The Netherlands is co-responsible for the fisheries agreement with Mauritania, and thereby for a rational and sustainable exploitation of the demersal resources.
