Title: Catalysts for oxidation of ammonia, based on ferric oxide activated with oxides of rare earth elements
Abstract: The use of RE ions as promoters in ferric oxide in most cases leads to increase of the activity and thermal stability of catalysts of ammonia oxidation to nitric oxide. A correlation exists between the catalytic activity of ferric oxide containing oxides of RE of the cerium group and the structure of the 4f shells of the corresponding RE ions; this correlation is less pronounced in the case of oxides of rare earth elements belonging to the yttrium group. Preparation of catalysts from oxides of iron and RE is accompanied by formation of solid solutions, most of which break down on increase of temperature under the conditions of ammonia oxidation.
