Title: The Eo-Permian coal seams of the Paraná basin in southernmost Brazil: An analysis of the depositional conditions using sequence stratigraphy concepts
Abstract: The Eo-Permian of the Paraná basin is studied using sequence stratigraphy. The study was based on data acquired from 92 entirely cored and geophysically logged boreholes. The study is an applicability test of the conceptual and methodological framework of sequence stratigraphy in the examination of the coal seams of the Eo-Permian Rio Bonito formation. The coal seams were predominantly deposited in a lagoon-barrier system, linked with a third-order transgressive systems tract, subdivided into four parasequence sets, each set represents a major transgressive pulse in the sedimentary history of the basin.
