Title: A 3 Ma paleomagnetic record of coastal continental deposits in Argentina
Abstract: Continental deposits of Upper Cenozoic age, laid down under alternating depositional environments, were subjected to paleomagnetic analyses. The sequence was found to cover the last about 3 Ma and to include the upper Gauss, the Matuyama and Brunhes epochs and the Olduvai and Jaramillo events. The reversals are independent of stratigraphic boundaries. The polarity changes are connected with low intensities and susceptibilities. The reversals seem to form oblique VGP-paths between approximately 90°W and 90°E longitude. The magnetostratigraphy established may serve as a local South American magnetostratigraphic standard section.
