The isolation frequency and genus of fungal contamination were determined in the 657 samples anayzed, and results were analyzed statistically to assess the effects of substrate and meteorological conditions on fungal proliferation. Significant differences were found among the different fungi that contaminated the samples. Penicillium was the most frequently isolated genus in the analyzed samples (62.8% in total), and the predominant species were P. chrysogenum and P. viridicatum. Aspergillus, Fusarium, Rhizopus and yeasts contaminated the samples at an intermediate level (between 21% and 53% of the samples). There was only a statistically significant correlation between the climatic conditions and the fungal contamination caused by yeasts in the samples.Read More
