Title: Optimizing the H/sub 01/-to-H/sub 02/ mode transformer profile using the T-functions apparatus
Abstract: The most efficient procedure for calculating irregular waveguides, both in terms of computing and physical interpretation, is a technique based on mapping a randomly irregular interior of a waveguide onto a regular cylinder, a coax, etc., having a circular or rectangular cross-section. Handling this problem by traditional techniques does not involve any difficulties if only propagating waves are considered. However, for beyond-cutoff modes, the numerical solution of a boundary two-point problem using step-by-step techniques is impossible due to their fast divergence. In this case, special discretely determined T-functions (Kurayev, A.A. et al., 2003) should be applied. On the basis of the T-functions mechanism, a technique has been developed and the profile of an H/sub 01/-to-H/sub 02/ mode transformer has been calculated and optimized.
