Title: Religious “Butinage”. Looking at Paranaguá-mirim (Brazil)
Abstract: The author discusses the religious practices of the inhabitants of Paranaguá-mirim (southern Brazil). He considers the simultaneous attendance of this social space by multiple religious denominations. This practice, described here as “religious butinage”, is a way of producing new social relationships. In contrast to agreed terms such as “religious transit”, “do-it-yourself-ism”, “syncretism” or “religious hybridization”, the notion of religious butinage renews the contemporary debate on religious pluralism and the “ways of doing things” that result as well as their social contextualization.
