Learn more.Copy URL Graphical Abstract A long time coming: In 1968, the first nickel(II) β-diketiminate complexes were prepared. It took over 30 years to find the right steric conditions to afford unsaturated nickel(I) scaffolds of the type [({ArNC(tBu)}2CH)NiL] (see scheme, L=neutral ligand). Ultimately, the right combination of ingredients resulted in formation of the dinitrogen complexes [{({ArNC(tBu)}2CH)Ni}2(μ2,η1:η1-N2)]x− (x=0, 1, 2).
