Abstract: An X-ray diffraction study of single crystals of 1sTaS2 at room temperature shows that the compound has a superstructure of the Cd(OH)2 type with a = a′.√13; c = 3 c′, where a′ = 3.365 Å and c′ = 5.897 Å are the axes of the Cd(OH)2-type subcell. The reflection intensities indicate that the trigonal superstructure is due to displacements of the atoms from the positions corresponding with the Cd(OH)2 type.
