Abstract: Contract urticaria has been defined as an erythema and edema reaction that appears within 1 hour after normal or eczematous skin has been in contact with certain agents capable of producing this type of contact dermatitis and disappears within a few hours.1 Contact urticarial reactions usually are accompanied by variable amounts of burning, stinging, tingling, or itching. In addition to localized contact urticaria, patients may demonstrate generalized urticaria, eczematous dermatitis, or maintenance of status eczematicus.2 Eczema-type contact urticaria also is known as protein contact dermatitis3 and as atopic contact dermatitis.4
