Title: pO2 changes during analysis of chicken arterial blood
Abstract: 1. Duplicate measurements 2·5 min apart were used to study changes in pO2 of chicken arterial blood samples immediately following withdrawal. 2. The second pO2 reading was 3 per cent lower than the first in the range of 90–120 mm Hg. 3. The change was less than 1 per cent in the pO2 range of 50–89·9 mm Hg. 4. The reduction in pO2—less than 1 mm Hg/min in the pO2 range expected for chickens breathing air—probably resulted from O2 consumption of blood cells but would not result in serious errors if the analysis is completed with 2–3 min after blood withdrawal.
