Abstract: The capabilities and characteristics of Spacelab are discussed, and a process is described for the integration of a large number of experiments into the vehicle. Spacelab payload services and experiment integration functions are examined. The latter include science management; mission definition, documentation, and control requirements and interfaces; analytical integration; ground processing; flight operations; and postflight activities. It is concluded that the major factors involved in Spacelab experiment integration have been optimized to a great extent with respect to maximum science return for minimum cost.
