Title: The Effect of Titanium on the Low Temperature Transition in Natural Crystals of Haematite
Abstract: The magnetic transformation in natural crystals of haematite at low temperatures has been studied in relation to the titanium content, using the electron shadow method. Spectrochemical analyses show that 0.2% titanium is sufficient to depress the transition to -85 °C. In those cases where no transformation was detected on cooling to -180 °C. it was found that the titanium content was at most 1%. These results differ considerably from those obtained by previous workers using synthesized specimens.
