Abstract: Retail mergers are one of the most frequent areas of antitrust enforcement. In particular, the Federal Trade Commission has taken a substantial number of supermarket merger enforcement actions. The author describes some of the important analytical concepts addressed in supermarket merger enforcement. The author identifies the Federal Trade Commission's evolving approach to important issues such as remedy and explains the basis for the Commission's more comprehensive approach to competitive problems in this area.
