Title: Residential enjoyment of wildlife resources by Americans
Abstract: Abstract Many Americans enjoy wildlife resources during their leisure time. Although most efforts to provide and enhance opportunities to engage in wildlife‐oriented recreation have focused on rural or undeveloped environments, many people participate in nonconsumptive uses of wildlife near their homes. This paper presents analyses of data from the 1980 National Survey of Hunting, Fishing and Wildlife‐Associated Recreation (USDI, 1982) concerning residential enjoyment of wildlife. It discusses characteristics of participants, the activities involved, and the implications for wildlife managers and others concerned with the management of natural resources to provide leisure services.
