Title: Catholic Identity, Religious Context and Environmental Values in Western Europe: Evidence from the European Values Surveys
Abstract: Cet article examine les relations entre la religion, les valeurs environnementales et autres, et les potentialites pour l'action volontaire en faveur du mouvement ecologique. Il se base sur les donnees de l'enquete European Values Surveys de 1990, recoltees dans 14 pays d'Europe occidentale. Employant l'analyse de dependance, il etudie l'importance des effets aussi bien de l'identite individuelle catholique que du contexte catholique national sur l'empressement a payer en vue de financer la protection ecologique (offering willingness), sur l'inquietude manifestee a l'egard de la pollution (concern), et sur l'approbation du mouvement ecologique. Compares a d'autres groupes, les catholiques ne manifestent pas davantage une orientation exploitante ou une orientation de bonne gestion (stewardship). Les resultats semblent plutot indiquer que la religion n'influence pratiquement pas les formes emergentes de la politique environnementale dans les pays industrialises de l'Europe occidentale
