Title: Spectrophotometric study of the reaction of nickel(II) with 4-(2-pyridylazo)-resorcinol in alkaline media
Abstract: Nickel(II) forms an orange complex with 4-(2-pyridylazo)-resorcinol in aqueous solutions at pH 8. Maximum absorbance is obtained at 495 nm and the metal/ligand ratio is 1:3. The molar absorptivity is 76,400±300 and the spectrophotometric sensitivity is 0.00077 μg Ni cm−2 for A=0.001. Beer's law is followed in the range 0.024–0.82μg Ni ml−1. Equilibrium constants have been calculated.
