Title: Internal shock models for gamma-ray bursts: Temporal and spectral properties
Abstract: We follow the evolution of a relativistic wind when the initial distribution of the Lorentz factor is highly non-uniform. We use an approach where the wind is modelled by a large number of layers which can collide and form internal shocks. We suppose that the magnetic field and the electron Lorentz factor reach equipartition values in these shocks. Synchrotron photons emitted by the relativistic electrons have typical energies in the gamma-ray range in the observer frame. Synthetic bursts are constructed as the sum of the contributions from many elementary internal shocks and their temporal and spectral properties are compared to the observations.
