Title: Gas absorption with a two-step chemical reaction
Abstract: Gas absorption with a two-step chemical reaction between a dissolved gas A and a liquid phase reactant B, A + B → C followed by C + B ″ E, is considered theoretically. Approximate analytical solutions for the reaction factor based on the film and penetration theories are derived for the case where the first reaction step is an irreversible second order reaction with a finite reaction rate and the second step is an instantaneous reversible reaction. The effects of the reaction rate of the first-step reaction and of the reversibility of the second-step reaction on the reaction factor are also discussed.
