Abstract:Based on a new double‐wavefield equation and its pseudospectral solution, we have developed a new 3‐D prestack depth migration called PSDW migration, which is about a factor of 2 faster than tradition...Based on a new double‐wavefield equation and its pseudospectral solution, we have developed a new 3‐D prestack depth migration called PSDW migration, which is about a factor of 2 faster than traditional reverse‐time migration but retains all the advantages of the reverse‐time migration, such as the ability to handle strong velocity variations and to image all dips including turning waves. A comparison between a multipathing Kirchhoff prestack depth migration and the PSDW migration over the same line of the 3‐D SEG/EAGE salt model, demonstrates that the PSDW migration is comparable in speed to the Kirchhoff migration and provides images of higher quality in subsalt areas.Read More
