Title: Airflow Resistance of Wheat and Barley Affected by Airflow Direction, Filling Method and Dockage
Abstract: ABSTRACT RESISTANCE to airflow was measured in cleaned and uncleaned wheat and cleaned barley. At an air velocity of 0.077 m/s resistances to vertical airflow compared with horizontal airflow were up to 60% higher for wheat and 115% for barley. Based on an air velocity of 0.077 m/s airflow resistances for layer filling (e.g. similar to filling a bin with a spreader) were higher than end filling (e.g. similar to filling a bin with stationary spout) by 25 to 35% for vertical airflow and 50 to 75% for horizontal airflow.
