Title: Vocational education in the secondary school: The case for continuation
Abstract: The essay supports the continuation and improvement of vocational education in public high schools based upon the value of the experiential nature of vocational instruction; the diversity the programs bring to the curriculum by offering broader learning choices and opportunities for success to all students; the leadership and related personal and employability attributes developed through the companion vocational student organizations; and the unique capacity of the programs to meet the needs of special learners. Note also is made of the role vocational education is playing in school reform efforts and its emergence as the “applied learning” dimension of the curriculum.
