Title: Growth and flowering in Hebe × franciscana ‘Variegata’ treated with plant growth regulators
Abstract: Abstract Hebe × franciscana ‘Variegata’ was drenched or sprayed once with either ancymidol (Reducymol), chlormequat (Cycocel extra), daminozide (Alar 85), ethephon (Ethrel 480), paclobutrazol (Bonzi) or dikegulac (Atrinal). Compared with control plants, some remarkable results (measured at the time of flowering) were obtained. One spray with 10 mg paclobutrazol l −1 caused suitable growth retardation and doubled the number of inflorescences per pot. In addition, one spray with 10 200 mg daminozide l −1 , one spray with 50 mg ancymidol l −1 or one drench with 18 400 mg chlormequat l −1 caused a slight retardation and increased the number of inflorescences. Better branching but neither growth retardation nor improved flowering was the result of one spray with 200–300 mg dikegulac l −1 . Treatments with ethephon caused necroses on the foliage or inhibited flowering.
