Abstract: Ein Multipol der Ordnung (L, M), welcher mit der Frequenz ω oszilliert, strahlt nach der klassischen Elektrodynamik Drehimpuls aus. Der gesamte pro Zeiteinheit emittierte Drehimpuls L liegt in der Richtung der Polarachse. Sein Quadrat verhält sich zum Quadrat der in gleicher Zeit emittierten Energie W wie L 2 : W 2 = M 2 : ω 2 . Für ein einzelnes Quant des Strahlungsfeldes ist nach der Quantenelektrodynamik hingegen das entsprechende Verhältnis L 2 :W 2 = L(L + 1):ω 2 . Es wird gezeigt, wie diese beiden verschieden lautenden Feststellungen mit dem Korrespondenzprinzip im Einklang sind.
