One of these is the...During recent years the number of pregnant diabetics has increased and there is now a better chance of tackling the many problems involved in the subject of diabetes and pregnancy. One of these is the much disputed hypoglycaemia of the newborn infant which is also of theoretical interest. The following is a report on our studies of the fasting blood sugar during the first 24 hours of life and the first weeks of the neonatal period respectively. A hypothesis is put forward to explain the regulation of the blood sugar in the newborn infant; finally the relationship between the blood sugar and clinical signs in the newborn infant is discussed.
