Title: Observation and quantification of activity and selectivity of solid catalysts
Abstract: Quantities characterizing the performance of a catalyst with respect to activity and selectivity depend on the control volume under consideration. Selectivity of a porous catalyst particle can be different from the selectivity of the active component. Evaluation of catalyst-specific data from observed reactor-behaviour is a critical step in catalyst-characterization. l-1 parameters are needed to describe the behaviour of a catalyst with respect to selectivity if l independent reactions are taking place. Selectivity in a triangular scheme of irreversible reactions is considered in detail and experimental results for the oxidation of methanol are given as an example.
