Title: Solar cosmic ray effects in the lower ionosphere of Venus
Abstract: The similarity of atomic parameters for the CO2 atmosphere of Venus and that of the Earth is used to calculate the ionization and optical emission rate in the upper atmosphere of Venus resulting from a major solar cosmic ray event. The possibility of as much as 10 per cent of N2 in the atmospheric composition of Venus does not change these effects appreciably.
