Flamelets are parametrized with the scalar dissipation rate (conditioned at the location of maximum temperature) which accounts for finite-rate chemistry. Further, in order to account for heat transfer effects in the turbulent flame, a second parameter is introduced, the enthalpy defect, with the meaning of a difference between the actual enthalpy and the enthalpy of an adiabatic with the same elemental composition. Issues concerning the definition of the mixture fraction, and of the boundary conditions for large enthalpy defects, are discussed. Results point out to the effect of the enthalpy defect on state quantities. The present treatment is intended to form the basis for a correct handling of the interaction between turbulence and combustion in radiating flames.Read More
