Title: The spring constant of a single crystal spring
Abstract: Abstract The spring constant of a single crystal spring of arbitrary crystallographic orientation has been calculated. When the anisotropy of the spring material is greater than one, springs oriented with the spring axis parallel to the 〈100〉 and 〈111〉 directions are the stiffest and softest respectively. The spring constants calculated for Ni 3 Al springs were consistent with experiment; the properties of the 〈100〉 oriented spring were nearly identical with those of the polycrystalline spring.
