Abstract: Abstract Antibacterial activity of ethanolic extract of Argemone mexicana seeds was assessed against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus by disc-diffusion method. The extract had significant inhibitory effect against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli with Minimum Inhibition Concentration values of 3 mg/ml and 3.5 mg/ml respectively. The phytochemical analysis of A. mexicana seeds demonstrated that the secondary metabolites such as tannins, flavonoids and steroids were present. The antibacterial activity of A. mexicana seeds extract may be due to such secondary metabolites.
