Title: On diffusion rings and sphaeroidal weathering
Abstract: Mineralogical and X-ray fluorescence spectrochemical studies of the diffusion rings of Dangago, Dire-Dawa, Ethiopia, reveal that in addition to limonite precipitation, other elements have migrated. Al, Si, K, Zr, Y, and Rb have been enriched in the leached zones; in contrast Ca and Fe show an increase in the brown zones. The Liesegang phenomenon and migration of elements are proposed as an explanation for the formation of these rings.
