Title: Protective Effect of Carperitide on aldosterone in congestive heart failure patients
Abstract: Background: Endogenous and exogenous natriuretic peptides have shown to reduce CYP11B2 mRNA expression in cultured neonatal rat cardiocytes. We hypothesized that carperitide reduced the expression of aldosterone in congestive heart failure patients. Methods and results: Data for 22 better outcome congestive heart failure patients were collected. Plasma BNP(496 ± 128 pg/ml to 122 ± 88 pg/ml), aldosterone (118 ± 34 pg/ml to 42 ± 29 pg/ml) and PAI-1(58 ± 25 pg/ml to 37 ± 13 pg/ml) were significant decrease after treatment with carperitide(p < 0.01), but there was no difference in plasma cortisol. Conclusion: Better clinical outcome of congestive heart failure patients suggest that aldosterone expression has inhibited by suppressing the gene expression of CYP11B2 by treat with carperitide.
