Title: Information dissemination: The role of the International Journal of Educational Development 1979–89
Abstract: This paper examines the role of the International Journal of Educational Development in disseminating information about research and education in developing countries during the first ten years of the journal's existence. It explores the origins of the IJED, its main purposes and in what ways it differs from other international education journals. It touches upon some of the difficulties in getting a new journal established and some of the underlying tensions in seeking to break a mould. The main area of work covered in IJED articles are surveyed and some suggestions are made for improving information dissemination by means of an international journal. It is suggested that abstracts of research theses by overseas students and scholars as well as reports on ongoing research should be included in a special section as a regular feature. Proposals are also made for special theme issues.
