Title: Resolving source parameters through pseudo potential anomalies
Abstract: Ambiguity is inherent in the interpretation of all geopotential anomalies. The ambiguity can possibly be reduced by generating pseudo potential anomalies and comparing them with the observed anomalies. A 0.25° digitized gravity anomaly data set of the Indian subcontinent and adjoining regions was used to generate a pseudo magnetic anomaly map at an altitude of 400 km. This map was compared with the MAGSAT scalar anomaly map and there seems to be a good reproduction of MAGSAT map over the Himalayas. However, anomalies over east and west coasts show latitudinal shifts of about 2° when compared to MAGSAT anomalies. The southern peninsular of India is characterized by strong negative Bouguer anomalies, possibly due to the bias of Indian ocean geoid low. The pattern of pseudo magnetic map as obtained from gravity data differs from that of MAGSAT suggesting different sources of gravity and magnetic anomalies over southern India.
