Title: 161: Utility of the Laboratory Risk Indicator for Necrotizing Fasciitis Score in Discriminating Necrotizing Fasciitis from Cellulitis Upon Initial Presentation
Abstract: Necrotizing fasciitis is a rare but severe form of soft-tissue infection requiring early surgical intervention to minimize morbidity and mortality. It can often be difficult to differentiate from cellulitis upon presentation but can progress rapidly. This study was performed to assess the validity of a clinical prediction rule, based on objective laboratory parameters, in discriminating between patients with necrotizing fasciitis and typical cellulitis upon emergency department presentation.
