Title: Metallic oxide phases of niobium and tantalum II. Metallographic studies
Abstract: The previous paper proved the existence of two niobium metallic oxide phases NbOx and NbOz, and of two tantalum metallic oxide phases, TaOy, and TaOz. Metallographic studies on polished and etched specimens show that NbOx and TaOy cannot be distinguished from the metal phase. The isomorphous suboxides NbOz and TaOz form platelets in the metal. It appears that nucleation of the latter two suboxides is favoured at sites of strain or imperfections in the metals.
