Title: Wind noise reduction in blast noise measurement
Abstract: Wind-generated noise presents a major obstacle in outdoor blast noise measurement. Research in the area of microphone windscreening is sparse and tends to be empirical at best. A microphone system will be described which attacks the wind noise problem from two directions: first, the system uses a windscreen which has been optimized for rejection of low-frequency wind noise, and second, a multimicrophone signal processing system is used to discriminate between acoustic signals and wind-induced noise. Performance data on a prototype system will be presented.
