Title: High power beams for neutral injection heating
Abstract: High power neutral beams are commonly used for the heating of magnetically confined plasmas in the fusion programme throughout the world. These beams are generated by the acceleration of multi-ampere beams of positive ions extracted from large area ion sources. The paper describes the design of such systems, with special reference to the prototype of the 5 MW long-pulse accelerator being developed for use on the Joint European Torus (JET) tokamak.
