Title: E´tude par la technique de Nauta, des de´ge´ne´rescences conse´cutivesa`une le´sione´lectrolytique de la re´gion septale chez le mulot sylvestre (Apodemus sylvaticus)
Abstract: This study has been undertaken to establish the nature of the septal efferences in the wood mouse (Apodemus sylvaticus) and to examine the situation of the septum in the whole of the intra- and extralimbic connections. Electrolytic lesions have been made in the septal region of 11 animals. Two brains with simulated operation, 2 non-operated brains and one with cortical lesions have been used as controls. Septal projections were traced to area CA4 of the hippocampus, gyrus dentatus and gyrus cinguli by the way of the precommissural fornix system, to the lateral preoptic region and lateral hypothalamus by the way of the medial forebrain bundle, as well as to the medial habenular nuclei and paramedian regions of the mesencephalon and tegmen. Projections to the anterior thalamus, although not quite certain, appear to be very probable. Lesions caused by the sole introduction of the electrode were responsible for the degeneration of interhemispheric connections, intralimbic relations, cortical efferents, and particularly of thalamo-cortical projections.
