Title: Physics with high P leptons at CDF: W asymmetry, high mass Drell-Yan and limits on quark-lepton compositeness
Abstract: We describe two measurements using 110±7 pb−1 of data collected by the CDF detector during 1992–1995. The first is a new measurement of the charge asymmetry in the lepton rapidity range 0 < |yl| < 2.5 using W → μν, eν events. The asymmetry data constrain the ratio of d and u quark momentum distributions in the proton over the x range of 0.006 to 0.34 at Q2 ≈ Mw2. Although the data in the central rapidity region (|yl| < 1.1) are by modern parametrizations of parton distributions, there are differences in the high rapidity regions. The second is a measurement of the dilepton mass spectrum in pp → l+l− + X using dielectrons (ee) and dimuons (μμ). The dilepton data are consistent with standard model predictions. The mass spectrum, being a probe for new physics, is examiend for new interactions of quarks and leptons from a common composite structure. Assuming a contact interaction with the conventional coupling g024π = 1, limits on chiral quark-electron and quark-muon compositeness scales in the range of 2.5 to 4.2 TeV are obtained.
