Title: Hemoglobin alterations in the gamma-irradiated spanish goat
Abstract: 1. Blood samples from control and gamma-irradiated Spanish goats were characterized for hemoglobin. 2. Cellulose acetate electrophoresis demonstrated the presence of a hemoglobin, designated C, in 52 per cent of the irradiated animals which was not observed in any of the controls. 3. This hemoglobin was electrophoretically distinguishable from goat fetal hemoglobin. 4. An inverse relationship was observed between total hemoglobin and hemoglobin C, indicating that the appearance of hemoglobin C is an indirect response to irradiation via an induced anemia.
