Title: The application of 14C dating to potsherds of the Jomon period
Abstract: Direct dating of a potsherd itself has been investigated for one group of Jomon pottery, so-called `fiber-tempered pottery', which contain a large amount of organic fiber as a temper. The best condition of alkaline treatment is examined for four samples. Each sample was divided into two parts, the surface and the black inside. A fraction of humic acid alone can be removed when a suitable moderate condition. In this study, 14 potteries have been dated.
